Time To Get Rid of The Weeds

As the winter cold begins to dissipate and the warmth of the sun bring brighter days, there is no doubt that spring is here.  I love being able to look at the grass returning to its green state in my yard, however with this new growth comes weeds.  How they get there is a mystery to me, I just know I have to deal with them.  To not treat my lawn with the right chemicals will result in a yard where the weeds overrun the grass.

Weeds are a lot like sin.  Everyone wants their relationship with God to be green, lush, and rich with life.  Unfortunately, we are cursed with sin.  When we allow habits, thoughts and patterns of conduct grow in our lives that are hostile to God and go against His Word, we are in danger.  Take a moment to survey the “lawn” of your heart and ask God to show you the weeds of sin that have cropped up in your life today.  Start by praying this scripture:

23 Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way.
[Psalm 139:23-24]

When God reveals those weeds of sin confess them and turn from them.  He will forgive you!

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
[1 John 1:9]

God’s desire is for you to have a weed (sin) free life and is beautiful.  He wants you to enjoy life as He created it, apart from sin. Get rid of your weeds and have courage, you do not have to do it alone, for God is the great gardener [John 15:1]

Confession, Reflection and The Lord's Supper

Yesterday, our church observed the ordinance of the Lord''s Supper or Communion as some call it.  Our church is blessed to have a committee that prepares this for us on every fifth Sunday.  This practice is designed to take us back in our hearts and minds to that dreadful night where Jesus sat at a table with His disciples to prepare them for His pending crucifixion .   The purpose of the Lord's Supper is not for us to go through the motions, but to remember all that Christ did for us.  His body was broken and blood was shed for the forgiveness of our sins.  Communion is a time to reflect, appreciate and give honor to Jesus for what He endured for us. This ordinance is not for everyone.  This is only to be taken by those who are believers and accepted Jesus as their ultimate forgiver and leader.  To partake in this service in an unworthy state is sin. 1 Corinthians 11:27 (NLT) 27 So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of s
