Pastor's Post for July "He Continues To Amaze"

Vacation Bible School has been an amazing outreach for our church this week. It has blessed my heart to see the number of children who have attended. God is showing all of us that He has a plan for Homeland Park Baptist Church. All of our VBS leaders have gone above and beyond to make VBS great. Thank you God for the number of children who made a decision for your son Jesus Christ. I look forward to our church following up with them and their families.

Secondly, this month our deacons will begin the nomination process to fill two positions that are rotating off and two that are open for a total of four deacons. I urge all of our members to pray and seek God’s guidance in nominating men who can carry out the mission of the church. Acts 6 tells us that the first deacons were installed to help in the spreading of the Gospel. That is what we are to do as believers and as a church. God is growing HPBC and we will need all leadership in every area doing their part. Everyone has been so faithful and I know you will continue to do so.

Finally, Sunday, July 14th will be an exciting day for the life of our church as Jason Elvington begins as our Youth Minister. Jason and his wife, Elizabeth, have already captured our hearts. We look forward to what God is going to do in and through them. We will have a reception for them on the night of the 14th after the Evening Worship Service to welcome them officially. Our church members are encouraged to bring finger foods to share.

I leave you with this thought. Paul reminds the church in Ephesus of the fact that they are worshiping and serving a God that is full of power.

“Now to Him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us— 21 to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
Ephesians 3:20-21

God is giving us power to do the work He has called us to do. We will do far more together with God than we can do alone. We will continue to give God glory to all generations. God is not finished with Homeland Park Baptist Church, He continues to amaze!

In Him,

Pastor James

Confession, Reflection and The Lord's Supper

Yesterday, our church observed the ordinance of the Lord''s Supper or Communion as some call it.  Our church is blessed to have a committee that prepares this for us on every fifth Sunday.  This practice is designed to take us back in our hearts and minds to that dreadful night where Jesus sat at a table with His disciples to prepare them for His pending crucifixion .   The purpose of the Lord's Supper is not for us to go through the motions, but to remember all that Christ did for us.  His body was broken and blood was shed for the forgiveness of our sins.  Communion is a time to reflect, appreciate and give honor to Jesus for what He endured for us. This ordinance is not for everyone.  This is only to be taken by those who are believers and accepted Jesus as their ultimate forgiver and leader.  To partake in this service in an unworthy state is sin. 1 Corinthians 11:27 (NLT) 27 So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of s

The Wondrous Cross

Attention all! As you drive by or visit our church, take a moment to admire the beautiful cross located to the right of our main entrance. This Easter season, we'll be using this cross to commemorate the special days leading up to Jesus' glorious resurrection. Look for the color of the sash to change each day, reflecting the significance of the holy week. A big thank you to Sherry, Ann and Jimmy for making this beautiful cross possible! To God Be The Glory!
